Digital data capturing has become an invaluable method to improve working procedures in the industrial manufacturing sector. The ultra-rugged barcode scanners DS3608-DPA/DS3678-DPA by Zebra enable reliable tracking of items and contribute to low error rates and improved product quality. The hand scanners read standard 1D and 2D barcodes as well as linear barcodes with a width of up to 10 cm (2.5 in). These high-performance scanners were developed for industrial environments and are therefore able to read all sorts of Direct Part Marks (DPM): ink mark, chemical etch, laser etch, inkjet mold, cast, thermal spray or dot peen. They work dependably regardless of the barcode’s condition and even recognize barcodes under shrink film. The smart illumination system allows variable data capture, for example off reflective labels or curved surfaces as well as the capture of particularly high or low contrast codes.

The Zebra DS3608-DPA/DS3678-DPA barcode scanners were created to suit industrial applications. This is why the devices are optimized for the integration into existing industrial Ethernet networks without additional equipment. Zebra’s EA3600 Network Connect for Automation supports a large spectrum of PLCs and is, for instance, compatible with EtherNet/IP for Rockwell Automation, PROFINET for Siemens, as well Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP. This holistic solution enables seamless communication within the network and improves security significantly. Zebra’s Data Capture DNA also provides intelligent software tools for uncomplicated management and monitoring of the scanners, improved scan performance and it also includes development tools.

There are two DPA models available: the corded Zebra DS3608-DPA and the cordless Zebra DS3678-DPA. The cordless version is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy Class 1 or 2. Due to the power monitoring and management functionality, the device is ready for more than 100,000 scans per charge. Part of Zebra’s Data Capture DNA is the WiFi Friendly Mode ensuring interference-free communication.

Rough environments require robust equipment. The Zebra DS3608-DPA/DS3678-DPA barcode readers are extremely durable. They are sealed against dust and water in accordance with protection class IP67 (DS3678-DPA cradle: IP65). The devices can withstand drops from a height of up to 2.4 m to concrete. Operating temperatures reach from -30 °C to +50 °C (DS3608-DPA) or -20 °C to +50 °C (DS3678-DPA), suitable even for the use in cold storage areas.
