Datalogic Skorpio X40 / X45: Mobile Computer for Demanding Operating Environments

Hardware and Processing
The device is powered by a Qualcomm® Dragonwing™ 4490 Octa-Core processor running at 2.4 GHz, paired with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS flash storage, plus a microSD card slot supporting up to 2 TB. The operating system is Android 15 (GMS and AOSP), with an upgrade path to Android 19 already in place. The 4-inch IPS display (WVGA, 480 × 800 pixels) delivers 450 Nits brightness and features Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® with a capacitive 5-point multi-touch panel that can be operated with gloves or a stylus.

Keyboard and Operating Concept
Users can choose from three physical keyboard layouts: 29-key (numeric), 39-key (functional numeric), and 48-key (alphanumeric). The large, well-spaced keys enable reliable input even when wearing protective gloves. The field-detachable handle allows quick conversion between pistol grip and handheld configuration without interrupting the workflow.

Scanning Performance
The Skorpio X40/X45 is available with either the Halogen™ DE2121-DL 1D/2D scan engine or the DE2121-ER Extended Range imager. Both variants support Datalogic’s patented Green Spot™ technology, which projects a visual read confirmation directly onto the label. All common 1D and 2D barcodes can be read under varying ambient conditions.

Connectivity
The Skorpio X40 supports Wi-Fi 6/6E (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) with 2×2 MU-MIMO, WPA3 Enterprise 192-bit, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. The Skorpio X45 extends this with WWAN featuring 5G NR FR1 (3GPP Rel. 16), LTE-Advanced/4G+, private network and CBRS support, and GPS/GNSS (Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, dual-band L1+L5). Both models offer a high-speed USB 3.2 gen1 Type-C port and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity via multi-slot docks.

Battery and Charging
The removable 7,000 mAh Li-Ion battery (25.445 Wh, 3.63 V) supports hot-swap to protect application data. Charging is available via contact or wirelessly (WPC Qi EPP, 10 W). Full backward compatibility with Skorpio X5 docks and accessories ensures that existing charging infrastructure can continue to be used.

Ruggedness and Protection Ratings
The device meets IP65/IP67 protection ratings and withstands multiple drops from 1.8 m at operating temperatures from −20 °C to +50 °C (per MIL STD 810H). Additionally, 3,000 tumble tests from 1.0 m drop height per IEC 60068-2-32 are documented. The housing is resistant to common cleaning agents, alcohols, and disinfectants.

Software and Device Management
The Skorpio X40/X45 ships with the Datalogic Mobility Suite, which includes tools for device protection (Shield, Launcher, Enterprise Browser, Integrity KIT), configuration (Scan2Deploy, OEMConfig, AE QR Generator), development (SDKs for Java, Kotlin, Xamarin, .NET MAUI, JavaScript), and operational optimization (Battery Manager, Enterprise Battery Saver, Smart Charge, Snap OCR, Pocket Mode). Device enrollment options include Android Zero-Touch, QR code enrollment, NFC bump, and EMM token. Compatible UEM/EMM solutions include SOTI MobiControl, VMware Workspace ONE, and Microsoft Intune. The Datalogic Connect cloud platform enables remote management and fleet analytics for all deployed Datalogic devices.

Certifications and Compliance
The device is Android Enterprise Recommended, GMS-certified, and compliant with EU RoHS. Laser classification follows IEC/EN 60825-1 Class 2. Maintenance and support plans are available through EASEOFCARE with Datalogic Shield for regular Android security patches and OS updates.
